THREADS AWARENESS LAB
Taught by BildungsLAB Managing Director Silvia Schroeder on their learning platform 'UntangledART'.
Introduction:
We are passionate about promoting and raising awareness of Every Thread Counts to encourage communities and individuals to think differently before buying yarn, textiles and clothing, to make smarter choices at the checkout and to extend the life of fabrics and clothing.
It's a movement that demonstrates how simple steps can significantly reduce the environmental impact of a material so often found in waste streams.
The lab is divided into three areas:
Craft Wise - Using Natural Fibers.
Reduce textile waste
Donate or Swap
Craft Wise - with natural fibers:
Natural fibers are the fibers that are derived from plant or animal sources. They usually allow the skin to breathe better and are considered more comfortable.
Reduce textile waste:
Opt for quality - you'll look good, save money and protect the environment. Extend the life of your clothing and reduce your carbon, water and waste footprint by up to 10 percent.
Donate or trade:
Remember the old adage that one man's trash is another man's treasure? Learn how you can host a clothing swap meet before your clothes end up in the landfill.
